Learning About The Villages, Florida

If you are considering moving to The Villages and would like to know more about what it would be like to live there I suggest a few actions that can help you to make up your mind.

The first thing I would suggest is to order a book written by Ryan Erisman called
“The Villages Florida Book”. Although Ryan is too young to live there, he has extensively studied the area and the book is accurate and well written. He also has a monthly newsletter that you can subscribe to called The Villages Monthly.

The second action I would recommend is to
rent a furnished house or villa for at least a few months in the off season and a few months in the high season, which is January, February and March. This way you will get a real idea of what its like when its most crowded and also when it is most vacant. Even though the summer is less crowded, there are still a lot of year round residents keeping The Villages an active community.

While you are renting, you can get to know the in’s and out’s of just about everything, and there are open houses 7 days per week to visit. This will give you a really good idea of market values in the area. You may also want to visit open houses in other communities outside of The Villages, as you can get more house for the money in other 55+ retirement communities and still have access to all the shopping, restaurants, and theaters. One thing you will miss is the abiliity to drive your golf cart to all those fun places, but it is a short drive by car. There are also a couple of places, such as Katie Belle’s that you can only visit with a Villages resident.

The Daily Sun is The Villages newspaper, and it is also full of information, including the many Open Houses. You can also visit the online version if you prefer,

There are two different real estate purchasing opportunities in The Villages. The developer sells their new construction and some resale homes. They do not cooperate with Realtors in the area. Is it time to buy a rental home in The Villages, FL?

If you have considered moving permanently to The Villages, but aren’t quite ready to become a full time resident just yet, this may be the best time to purchase your future Florida home and enjoy some income from it until you are ready.

The villas in this 55 + community rent extremely well, particularly if you have a golf cart in addition to the furniture. Both courtyard villas and patio villas in The Villages rent well.  Tenants register upon occupancy and can play golf and use the other amenties.
